One of the most calm, mellow styles you can possibly ever imagine in a rapper of today's hip-hop era. That's what you will discover after listening to Martin $ky, an 18-year-old artist from the Windy City who is looking to bring a new type of vibe and flow to the music world. The Chicago native has been rhyming for a little over a year now and has already drawn plenty of attention. Showing us a slight resemblance to artists like Joey Bada$$ and even the well-respected MF Doom, whom Martin is a huge fan of. Currently, the young MC is working on his upcoming tape Time(LESS), which should be available this summer for free online. This youngster has an ear for beats like no other and a rare, galactic style to his videos that is unmatched. Hopefully these tools can carry him deep into the game and give Martin $ky the opportunity of a lifetime.

Interview

Who is Martin $ky? How old are you? Where are you from? What do you do?

"Martin $ky is a rap artist from Chicago. I'm 18 years old and I rap and stuff."

How did you come up with the name “Martin $ky”?

"I just put $ky on the end of my real name that I go by and it worked out pretty nicely."

How long have you been rapping for?

"About 1 year and some change."

When I listen to your music I think MF Doom.  Would you agree?

"Hell yeah. I see why. Heavy influence of mine right there."

Any projects you working on at the moment?

"The Time(LESS) album which is gonna drop this summer. It's a free album too so yeah, it's gonna be tight I think."

Talk about the “Invitation” music video. What were your first thoughts on it? Did you ever think you would hit 20,000 views?

"I thought it was cool, but didn't think it would get me the attention it did. It was a cool idea that we came up with and I loved the outcome. Didn't think much of it though."

What artists, if any, have influenced you?

"Doom, Curren$y, Kid Cudi, Tribe, Pete Rock, Dilla, Tyler The Creator."

What do you look for when it comes to production?

"Something different. I ask myself have I heard anything like it before, if I haven't, that's the beat I want. If I have, even if the beat is cold, I don't even want it."

What do you do for fun when your not making music?

"Play video games and shit, listen to beats, chill with my homies, roll up some medicinal ahaa. Music is always involved in what I'm doing somehow though."

What can we expect from Martin $ky in the future?

"A lot of good music and videos. I'll be working everyday so I'll always have something new for people to enjoy."
