MerCure Dior
By Paul Jimenez on September 22, 2014
MerCure Dior is an Italian-born artist (now based in Los Angeles) who provides listeners with a little bit of everything. The gifted 19-year old proved just how versatile he is in his latest project entitled The EP, where he introduced both his tranquil vocals and vehement lyrics in tracks like “Monday Night” and “Dreams Equal Secrets”; not to mention MerCure produced the whole project himself, orchestrating a diverse sound for each and every song. His only other body of work before The EP came through Insomnia in 2012, which features his most notable piece in “Gush” with A$AP Ant. The young gentleman is just getting started, so expect much more exotic tunes from him looking forward.
INTERVIEW
Who is MerCure Dior?
"MerCure Dior is more than a brand. He is a Cameroonian, Italy-born, American raised visionary. I plan to change how people listen to music, period."
Around what point in your life did you decide to start making music?
"At about 6 years of age. I started off with a childhood friend, we wrote this little rap about Jesus in my room. I actually still remember it, but from then on it's just been working at it ever since."
Who are The Disciple Life Ones and what do they represent?
"The Disciple Life Ones is my brand, movement, lifestyle, whatever you want to call it. We represent ever lasting life, life in a spiritual sense. We believe in fulfilling your destiny on this earth and not only having your legacy live forever, but your soul too. I know this may be a lot to take in, but I just want everyone to know that I plan to stay."
How would you describe your own music?
"My music represents the emotion and feel at the time. I always try to get my thoughts across as best that I can, I just hope people could understand that."
What do you like in your music videos?
"Music videos can vary, but mostly getting a story across. I love for my music videos to have a message if I'm not just having fun like on records such as "Ok, Straight", but songs like "Dreams Equal Secrets" are more intuitive, reflective tracks, and I wanted people to reflect when they saw the music video and picture the message behind it."
Talk about your recent project, The EP.
"The EP was a collection of songs that I made in order to give people a proper introduction to what I'm capable of as a rapper, producer, and singer. I wanted to give a small intro to the TDLO sound and how I plan to shape the music scene."
Do you prefer rapping over your own production?
"Yeah, I do. I feel like only I can truly know the sound that I want. It doesn't mean that I'm not down to collaborate with other producers and artists in the studio."
What do you want to have done by the end of your music career?
"Change music."
